Prenatal Visits (at least one)
I will meet with you and your partner at least once (preferably twice) before labor to become acquainted, to explore and discuss your priorities and any fears or concerns, to discuss your birth plan and to plan how we might work best together.
I also want to know your preferred ways of coping with pain and fatigue and how you and your partner foresee working together. Keep in mind that YOU will determine how I can best serve you as your doula. I will be available to you throughout your pregnancy to provide you with any resources you may need.
Keep in mind that the Prenatal visits do not have to be a formal meeting but can also be getting to know you while taking a walk in a park, at a prenatal Dr. appointment or a Childbirth Education Class(if instructor approves)
I will officially be on call two weeks before your due date. I will provide guidance in early labor by phone and will come to your home or meet you at the hospital/birth center when you think you need me (usually in active labor). I will provide continuous support during active labor and delivery, including comfort measures, positioning techniques, massage, and acupressure. Ask about our Destination Birth packages.
I am not only there to offer support to the laboring woman, but I also help support the partner as well. I am not there to replace anyone. I work along side couples and suggest coping techniques during birth that you and your partner can use through this experience.

I usually remain with you for one to two hours after birth, until you are comfortable and your family is ready for quiet time together. I can also help with initial breastfeeding if necessary. I would like to get together with you within one to two weeks for a postpartum visit. I am available to answer any questions, from the birth to adjusting to your new family and beyond.
